Statement of Beliefs
En Croix is a non-denominational organization of Christian believers who hold the following statements to be true.
The Authority and Inerrancy of Scripture
We believe the Bible to be the verbally inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, and the supreme and final authority in doctrine and practice (II Peter 1:21; John 17:17).
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
II Timothy 3:16-17
The Trinity
We believe in one God eternally existing in three equal persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who have the same holy nature and godly attributes.
(II Corinthians 13:14).
"Therfore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,..."
Matthew 28:19
"And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession- to the praise of his glory."
Ephesians 2:13-14
Jesus Christ, God became Man
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal
Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be
God, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and
born of the Virgin Mary.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the ligt of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it."... "He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
John 1:1-4, 10-14
Everyone is a Sinner and in Need of Redemption
We believe that man was created innocent and in
the image and likeness of God but that he sinned
bringing both physical and spiritual death to himself. Since that first sin, we believe that all men and women have inherited sinful natures. This sin alienates all of us from God. It is this separation from God that causes us to have a need for salvation. There is a deep need in our innermost souls to be right with God, our creator. (Genesis 1:27; 2:17; 3:19)
"..for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Romans 3:23
"As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our singful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath."
Ephesians 2:1-3
Jesus Christ Died for Our Sins
Jesus Christ, who was holy, perfect, and without sin, died on the cross so that anyone who believed in Him, would be forgiven by God, who is by nature a just God. To believe in Christ, you must realize that you are a sinner and in need of a savior to reconcile yourself to God. Once you accept the free gift of forgiveness and salvation, God no longer looks at you and sees a sinner. Instead, he sees you as pure and blameless, washed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
(John 1:1, 14, 18; Luke 1:35; Romans 4:25).
"This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished-- he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus."
Romans 3:22-26
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is now in
heaven, exalted to the right hand of God. You could say that he is presently acting as the bridge that connects us to God. (Hebrews 1:3; 3:1;
7:23-25; I John 2:1-2).
Salvation by Faith Alone
We believe that salvation is a gift of God that must be accepted by an individual through personal faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for sin. Your salvation is not dependant upon good works, good deeds, or being a wonderful person. (Acts 13:38-39; Romans 6:23). We believe that all true believers, once saved, are saved forever. You cannot lose your salvation.(Romans 8:1, 38-39; John 10:27-30).
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Ephesians 2:8-10
The Return of Christ
We believe in the personal, imminent coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for the Church. (I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Matthew 24:15-31; Zechariah 14:4-11; Revelation 20:1-6).
"For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body."
Philipians 3:18-21
